A new artist joins the DG roster: Kike Terrón, from Madrid, is one of the most talented percussionists of the Spanish musical scene, and a real specialist of the cajón.
Despite of his young age, he already has an amazing CV, having played with big names of  Flamenco, such as singer Carmen Linares, guitarist J.M. Cañizares and the Spanish National Ballet.
And not only this, because he got the call from famous percussionists as well, like Bandolero, and is featured together with Piraña, in the documentary by Javier Limón "El Viaje del Cajón".
Also, he is Manu Masaedo's favourite cajon player, always accompanying him live.
A musician's musician, a real ace player, who will give us a lot of inspiration, and added value to what we do.

GRACIAS

I had been wanting to write for a while about Paco de Lucia's last record, which publication happened posthumous to his death.
This work ended up being the Artist's legacy, and was expected by many as a special event, even more so by us, because we knew that our endorser Paquito González had been summoned to record percussion on it.
This meant a huge goal for Paquito, the crowning of his impressive carreer, which brought him alongside practically all the important figures of Flamenco.
He had already crossed paths with the greatest, when he played on Miguel Poveda's Alegrias "Serafino", but now he was going to play on his record!
From another point of view, for us it also meant a symbolic achievement, given that our very idea of cajón was formed by endless hours of listening to Paco's records, he was our first and most important reference.
Being able to listen to a record of Paco's knowing that that cajón sound came from one of our instruments, is like being awarded an Oscar, a Nobel and a Grammy all rolled into one!
Paquito went to the sessions with a Maestral model, probably our most original out of the catalogue, the one that we patented writing the drawings and the claims with our own hands, and for ths reason we were even more happy about that.
But Paco's sudden death took us completely by surprise, so the publication of the record ended up taking a different meaning to what we were prepared to.
It is impossible to listen to it now with an underlying melancholic mood.
Paquito plays on four of the eight tracks that make the record, the three Bulerias and the Zambra sung by Parrita.
As always, his elegant and sensitive playing complements impeccably each composition, and the Maestro really appreciated that.
The sound of the cajón has a real "live room" quality, since producer Isidro Muñoz decided to record it mainly from the front plate, thus achieving an effect that differs from the general trend.

Rafael Santa Cruz R.I.P.

We are sorry to announce another big loss for the world of the cajón: musician and actor
Rafael Santa Cruz passed away at his home in Lima, due to a heart attack, he was only 53.
Rafael was one of the most important ambassadors for the Peruvian cajón in the world: beside his musical activity, he was also a skilful communicator, both with his word and his writing.
He wrote a book, and many articles about the origin and the history of Afro Peruvian music, especially the cajón, and he created and managed the Cajón Festival in Lima.
His book "El Cajón Afro Peruano" is one of the most informative publications about the subject, collecting styles and tales from the old Masters, like Gancho Arciniega, Chocolate, Pititi, Caitro Soto...
Personally, I was lucky to have met him during the summer of 2009, in Madrid; Rafael was gifted with a strong natural charisma, and he was so spontaneous that everybody that met him had to like him.
He was appreciative and nice towards me: he liked the documentary that I produced, and he even invited me to take part to the first edition of the festival in order to present it to the public, but I was unable to go, due to serious family problems at the time.
Now, more than ever, I am sorry to have missed the chance to know better this great gentleman.
So long, my friend...

This morning  Paco de Lucía, the Maestro, the greatest, passed away.
Words are superfluous, we just want to say that we learned a lot with his music.
His sound, his message had become so familiar to us that  it feels like we lost a very close friend.

We're back!

Yes, I know, we skipped 2013, I am sorry... it was too difficult to keep up with the news, things just kept coming at us, and we didn't have time to write what was happening, because we were just too busy living it!

The main news: we patented a new cajon pedal that hits on the side and a special cajon that goes with it, and then found out that the same pedal could also be used for the front panel, so it was like "make an invention, get one free!".
The patent was made together with Leiva Percussion, to strenghten our bonds with a company that we like and that we work well with.
Because we're nice guys, really...we have many friends :)  one of them,  Manu Masaedo, was a revelation in 2013.
We knew he was a world class percussionist and drummer, but we also discovered that he is a hell of a singer and songwriter too!!!
Therefore, we decided to back him up and help him producing his first record, which is going to come out really soon.
We did this with another great friend of ours, a wizard of sound engineering, Kiko Caballero.
He recorded all the Cajon Flamenco dvd, so we knew him very well, plus, he happens to be very good friend with Manu, so we hit it really well together.
The record is coming out soon, so, people get ready!
