DG at Frankfurt Musik Messe 2011

We finally took part to a major music fair, since the company was founded, back in 2003: it was the world famous Musik Messe in Frankfurt, and we entered through the big door, thanks to our German distributor, Box Of Trix.

They set up a wall of cajones, and several good looking 

banners in their impressive stand, there also was a screen playing the new Maestral promo constantly, so our presence was perfectly highlighted.

Por fin fuimos a una feria musical importante, desde nuestros comienzos, en 2003: fué la Musik Messe de Frankfurt, y entramos por la puerta grande, gracias a nuestra distribuidora alemana, Box Of Trix.

Prepararon una muralla de cajones y varias pancartas espectaculares en su impresionante stand, y también una pantalla que reproducìa constantemente el video promocional del nuevo modelo Maestral, asì que nuestra presencia quedó muy bien evidenciada.

Visiting the dozens of stands that were there, I had the feeling that the cajon is carving itself an increasing space within the music world, yet the big companies don't seem to have understood yet how it is supposed to sound.

The great majority of cajons that I saw, I would estimate a 90%, were quite poor in quality.

This is good for us, because it makes us stand out, but on the other hand, I feel that such a low average quality is slowing down the spreading of the cajon in places like the US, where it is still perceived as a somehow curious and exotic thing but is still not taken very seriously...

And the trouble is that in this kind of events, if you don't have a super trained ear, it is very difficult to get the differences between a good and a bad one, due to the massive background noise caused by thousands of people playing drums and cymbals at once.

Actually I think that an Aspirin stand would be very popular too!

Visitando las docenas de stands que habían, mi impresion fue que el cajón está ganando cada vez más popularidad, sin embargo, las grandes marcas no parecen haber entendido todavía como debería sonar este instrumento.

La gran mayoria de cajones que ví, calculo que un 90%, eran de baja calidad.

Esto está bien para nosotros, porqué nos hace destacar, pero por otro lado, creo que una calidad media tan baja está perjudicando la difusión del cajón en sitios como los EEUU, donde todavía se percibe como algo curioso y exotico, pero no se le toma muy en serio ...

Y es que una feria como esta, si no tienes un oido super entrenado, no es lo ideal para captar las diferencias entre modelos buenos y malos debido al enorme ruido de fondo causado por miles de personas que están probando baterías todos a la vez.

De hecho, creo que un stand de Aspirina se volverìa muy popular!

Marco Fadda came with me to the show, and we had the chance to meet old and new friends: Billy Cobham, Horacio Hernandez, Pete Lockett, Selva Ganesh, Juan Bauste, Mark Collazo, Dave Kuchermann, Valter Kinbom, Christian Krebs, Ovidio Venturoso, plus our distributors in Japan, Akira Kikutani and Tommy Omori, Djalil Bendraoui from France, Dick Visser from Holland, Franco Scavino from Italy, Jes Sorensen from Denmark, Karoly Feher from Hungary, and also David, Darran, Ryan and Simeon from the UK.

Other new distributors showed great interest in our work, so hopefully we might get to new countries in the future.

También demostraron mucho interés otros distribuidores, a ver si llegamos a otros paises del mundo.
